Gel Candle Making Tips

This wax is from the paraffin family, made with polymer and mineral oil.

It has a jelly like consistency, and a very high melt point of 200F. You will need to melt this in the heat controlled melter or directly over low heat. It will eventually melt in a double boiler system but it takes forever. Do not walk away when melting this wax and be diligent about stirring it.

Gel wax can be used for creating seascape candles with embedded items such as seashells and plastic fish. Porous items can create unwanted foaming in your design. You may want to “predip” porous items to be embedded. Plastic items may actually melt from the heat of the gel.

For safety, make sure to use fragrances from our Gel Safe section.
